Rick’s practice focuses on the representation of businesses and individuals in high-stakes disputes, focusing on insurance and reinsurance litigation and arbitration. Rick has built a broad portfolio of expertise in professional liability disputes, as well as life insurance, property and casualty insurance, and facultative and treaty reinsurance matters.
From 2014 through 2018, Rick designed and built the soon-to-be-launched master’s of insurance management program at Columbia University, serving as interim program director. Prior to joining The Benson Firm, Rick was a partner at an AmLaw 100 Firm, serving as partner-in-charge of that firm’s San Antonio office, as well as that Firm's associate general counsel. Rick has also been recognized as a leading Texas insurance attorney by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2010-2014).
Rick is admitted to practice in Texas, before all of the U.S. District Courts for the State of Texas and the Texas Supreme Court. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals 2nd and 5th Circuits.
Rick serves as Chair of the board of SAMMinistries, a provider of services to the homeless. He also serves as a board member on the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. He previously served on the board of the United Way of San Antonio.
